The Boeing 737-800 is a narrow-bodied aircraft and one of our most popular options for group charter flights.
Considered to be one of Boeing’s most successful of the 737 series, the 737-800, which was launched in 1994, is a true workhorse. The 737-800 replaced the older 737-300 and 737-400 Boeing models and is the third generation of the 737.
Renowned for its comfort and efficiency, the B737 is capable of short to medium-haul charter flights within Europe. We regularly use 737-800s for our sports charter flights and for our comprehensive annual schedule of pilgrimage charters.
Let’s take a look at the specifications:
- Powered by twin CFM56-7B turbofan engines, designed to provide superior reliability and maximum fuel efficiency.
- The overall length of the plane is 39.5m and it is 12.5m high. The wingspan is 35.8m.
- It boasts a high cruising altitude speed of 530mph and a flying range of between 6-7 hours.
- With a freight capacity limit of 6,220kg (13,710lb) it is no surprise that this is our go-to for charters that have considerable passenger and cargo requirements, like sports kits and equipment.

Seating on board the 737-800
The maximum seating capacity for a 737-800 is 189, typically arranged in a 3 – 3 formation; a single aisle with 3 seats on either side and legroom of around 76 – 81cms.
The 737-800s are also available with a two-class configuration, with business and economy class seats, with this arrangement typically accommodating 162 passengers.
Reasons to charter the 737-800:
Charters for sports charter flights
The 737-800 is a frequent flier for our sports charters, including some team travel, but mostly supporter flights for football and rugby fixtures. It provides efficiency and comfort for these fan flights, typically organised by specialist sports travel agencies.
Charters for specialist tour operations
For over 20 years, we have organised a comprehensive programme of charter flights from across Europe to Lourdes in France. Using modern and reliable Boeing 737-800s, we have perfected this large-scale operation, working with valued tour operator clients who rely on us to run seamless flight operations.
Charters for incentive trips
The modern and spacious interior of the 737-800 makes it an ideal choice for our corporate clients and event agencies chartering aircraft for incentive trips. With a flying range of around 6 hours, it provides destination flexibility for Europe and beyond. The cabin offers opportunity for branding and a range of catering options, including hot meals.
Why we like the Boeing 737-800
Matt Feldon, Head of Charter, said: “The Boeing 737-800 aircraft makes up approximately 16% of the total passenger planes currently in worldwide service. Therefore, there are lots of them around, used by European operators and most commonly by low-cost and charter airlines. We like the fact that it has nine more seats than an Airbus 320, which may not seem like a lot, but every seat is important to ensure our clients get the most cost-effective solution”.
