Smart Aviation, one of the leading providers of global aircraft and private jet charters for the last 20 years, was called upon last week to assist an airline faced with an AOG (aircraft on ground) situation in Palma de Mallorca. The airline’s Airbus A330 required urgent replacement of two main wheels, and with no spares available locally, the parts had to be transported quickly from the carrier’s base in Oslo.
A solution was secured using an A320 operated by LEAV Aviation. The aircraft repositioned from Cologne to Oslo with no passengers onboard, where the replacement wheels were loaded into the hold. It then flew directly to Palma, again operating without passengers and with only the flight deck crew, before returning to Cologne once the delivery was complete.
In just over five hours, the wheels had arrived in Palma, allowing the grounded A330 to return to service. The operation highlighted the speed and precision required behind the scenes to minimise disruption when an aircraft is out of service.
