Scott Harding Smart Aviation

Get to know Scott Harding, Aircraft Charter Broker at Smart Aviation – find out what a typical day as a charter broker is like, the best things about working in aviation and the most challenging parts of the job.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day generally starts with reviewing what flights I have on for the day and checking that all is running smoothly. From there I tend to look at reaching out to new potential clients as I always find the mornings are where I have most of my success. After lunch is where I find time to deal with the charter requests that I have on the go. This involves speaking to operators and ensure I have covered the market well enough and the client has been given the best available option.

What do you love about working in aviation?

As an aircraft charter broker, I love the variety and excitement that comes with matching clients’ unique needs to the right aircraft. The dynamic nature of the industry keeps me engaged – every day is different, whether I’m arranging a last-minute jet charter, negotiating contracts, or ensuring everything goes smoothly for clients. It’s rewarding to know that I’m helping people travel efficiently, comfortably and safely. The challenge of finding the perfect solution, combined with the fast-paced environment in aviation, makes it a truly exciting job. Plus, working with a wide range of clients and aircraft types adds so much diversity to my role.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job as an aircraft charter broker is managing the complexity of last-minute requests and ensuring everything falls into place seamlessly. Coordinating multiple factors such as aircraft availability and client preferences can be stressful, especially when time is tight. Additionally, managing expectations and balancing cost with quality can be tricky.

What do you do when you are not working?

When I’m not working, I enjoy watching sports, whether it’s football, basketball, or any exciting game. It’s a great way for me to relax and unwind. I’m also preparing for an exciting new chapter in my life, as I have a child on the way! So, a lot of my free time is spent getting ready for that, whether it’s organizing the nursery or reading up on parenting. It’s a busy but an exciting time.

Where would you be working if you hadn’t chosen aviation?

I always believe I’m the funniest person in the room! I love making people laugh and bringing positive energy wherever I go. If I weren’t in aviation, I probably would have tried to pursue a career in comedy though I’d need to get over my stage fright first!
